With a voice "capable of sinister low chest tones and robust high notes that can express a gamut of emotions" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) and a stage presence that has been called "a force to be dealt with" (Opera News), Lindsay Ammann is rapidly rising as a radiant star in the opera world. Possessing an instrument well-suited for the most dramatic of roles, Ms. Ammann is proving to be a future staple in the works of Verdi and Wagner.
The 2018-19 season begins with a return to the Metropolitan Opera as La Badessa in Suor Angelica and Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi with superstar Plácido Domingo. On closing night at the Met, she went on as La Principessa in Suor Angelica. She then continues with a return to the Kennedy Center as Olga in Eugene Onegin with Washington National Opera, Ježibaba in Rusalka with Madison Opera, Maddalena in Rigoletto with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Olga in Eugene Onegin at the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Japan.
In the 2017-18 season, Ms. Ammann was seen as Rossweisse in Die Walküre with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dame Quickly in Falstaff with Opera Omaha, the title role of Orfeo with Florida Grand Opera, Death in Robert LePage’s award winning The Nightingale and Other Short Fables with the Canadian Opera Company, Alto Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Omaha Symphony, and Azucena in Il Trovatore with Central City Opera.
In 2016-17, she was seen as Flosshilde in Das Rheingold with Lyric Opera of Chicago, First Norn and Flosshilde in Götterdämmerung with the Canadian Opera Company, Fourth Voice in Arjuna’s Dilemma with Dallas Opera, and Dame Quickly in Falstaff with Opera Saratoga.
In the 2015-16 season, Ms. Ammann sang with the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as Martha in a concert of Adam's The Gospel According to the Other Mary in Strasbourg, France. She then sang Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with North Carolina Opera, followed by Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte with Geneva Opera. Ms. Ammann was the Alto Soloist in Verdi's Requiem with the South Dakota Symphony before debuting at the Kennedy Center in the Washington National Opera Ring Cycle, in which she sang the roles of Erda, Schwertleite and First Norn.
Ms. Ammann made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Robert LePage's Ring Cycle as Rossweisse in Die Walküre, under the baton of James Levine in 2011. Highlights of recent seasons include, Schwertleite in Die Walküre (Canadian Opera Company); Ježibaba in Rusalka (Aalto-Musiktheater Essen Oper), Olga in Eugene Onegin, Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos, Dame Quickly in Falstaff, Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer, Flosshilde in Götterdämmerung (Oper Stuttgart); Beatrice in Le Donne Curiose (Wolftrap Opera); Goffredo in Rinaldo, Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia, Dame Quickly in Falstaff, Olga in Eugene Onegin (Pittsburgh Opera); Olga in Eugene Onegin, Page in Salome (Opera Theatre of Saint Louis).
In concert, Ms. Ammann has sung Brangäne in Act 2 of Tristan und Isolde, Verdi's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Elijah, Mahler's Symphony No. 2, and Rossini's Petite messe solennelle with orchestras such as Casals Festival Puerto Rico, Pittsburgh Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, and Indiana University.
Ms. Ammann can be seen on the Die Walküre DVD from the Metropolitan Opera's Ring Cycle and the documentary DVD Wagner's Dream, as well as heard on the Grammy Award-Winning Twilight of the Gods CD, all released by Deutsche Grammophon.
